I grew up in upstate NY...loved whatever snow we got as kids. Different story when we got older and had to drive to/from work. Moved to the “left coast” in the late ‘50’s and had to drive to the mountains to see snow.
That’s my story, too. Grew up in Ithaca, Utica and Syracuse suburbs and loved winters with snowball fights, backyard hockey rinks, sledding, snowball fights. Then, when I got bigger, Dad expected his strapping young son to do all the snow shoveling. Ugh.
I stopped in Missouri for seven years, then lit out for California. Then, five years ago, we bought a summer home in North Idaho where it is cold, dark and snowy during the winter. My wife loves that (so she says) and doesn’t want to leave Idaho, but I’m back at our Bay Area place with sunshine and 60ish temps today.
