Sen. Bob Casey campaigns paid $500K to sister’s printing company: FEC filings

Sen. Bob Casey’s campaigns have funneled more than half a million dollars to a printing company owned by his sister and brother-in-law, raising ethics questions about a family business arrangement spanning more than 20 years.

Casey (D-Pa.), 62, has spent more than $500,000 on services from Universal Printing Company over the course of his nearly three-decade political career — more than $200,000 of which was paid between 2005 and 2022 by Bob Casey for Senate, Inc., according to Federal Election Commission filings.

Universal Printing’s owner and CEO, Margi McGrath, is the oldest sister of the Democratic senator, has also donated thousands to Casey’s Senate fund and even campaigned on his behalf during his failed 2002 run for Pennsylvania governor.

A spokeswoman for Casey’s office did not respond to requests for comment. McGrath and Universal Printing Company also did not respond to requests for comment. Neither did staff members for the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.

Did she do $500K of printing?
Is this a reasonable cost for the amount of printing that was done?

There is way too much criminal behavior to investigate without them dangling these shiny trivial pursuit shiny things in front of us.

Bob Casey was the dumbest person currently in the Senate. He’s there only because the name “Casey” means something to older Pennsylvanians. Casey’s father was a decent governor. That was many years ago.

Notice that I said Casey WAS the dumbest person currently in the Senate. Fetterman now has that title.

The correct conclusion is the truth.

It is utterly typical Swamp behavior of both parties to funnel campaign money to family members performing campaign tasks. This is most profound in the world of polling. The task has no measurement metric and it is an absolutely huge part of campaign spending, often exceeding the ad budget.

You will nearly always find family members involved in polling.

This is Swamp stuff. Not Democrat stuff. $500K over rather a lot of years is small potatoes. Someone have a look at Lindsey Graham’s campaigns.

Where the big score can be found is the winning candidate with a brother running a polling firm for him, and have that candidate recommend that polling firm for some newbie, like Hershel Walker. You know damn well the Swamp plugged their own filth in to his campaign. He would have no idea how that game is played.

This is how political campaigns are used to launder money. Campaign contributions are used to pay vastly inflated sums to family, friends and political Allie’s as employees, consultants and contractors. The money then makes it way back to the financial interests of the politician. The same thing is done with contributions to “charitable foundations”. Chelsey Clinton was being paid 800K a year for a do nothing job at the Clinton Foundation/

So if I’m the head of the Department of Education and my cousin Vinny sells school books, you’d have no problem with me giving cousin Vinny a 5 million dollar contract for books?

A great political leader from my NYC home, William Marcy “Boss” Tweed, was challenged by a reporter who accused him of steering public money to reward his friends.

His answer defined politics for all time:

“So, who am I supposed to reward? My enemies?”

"But that don’t make it right what these corrupt people are doing."

Did I say it was right? It was offered as another example of the political and monetary corruption in Washington, D.C.

I agree. They may have gotten a good price, but certainly not enough to keep them in business for so many years. Casey probably didn’t have to pay a consultant 10-20%.

Unless there is much more to the story, it’s a nothingburger.
