“This is why open carry must be a national law. People are a lot friendlier when they see you’re carrying.”

Weapons should be felt and not seen. It takes training and is difficult to not telegraph your next punch. I equate open carry with telegraphing the next punch.

I’ve never felt comfortable with open carry, because I do not possess 360° vision. In a squad, sure. Solo? Nope.

I was in a store awhile back, and maybe 20 feet ahead of me there’s this guy who’s open carrying (it’s legal in my state). His back was to me, and he was looking at something on a shelf.

If I were nuts and wanted his gun, I absolutely could have taken it. Easiest thing in the world.

I get that there are problems with concealed carry as well. But yeah. I agree with you.

You explained, perfectly, why we need more open carry. It’s educational and it is calming to others, that’s why police carry openly.

Telegraphing? Your assumption that open carry is equal to a first punch, is kind of a stretch to tag open carry with that.

The more the muddy middle sees people, normal people, carrying openly the less likely those folks, the muddy middle, will buy into the left’s narrative that guns are so dangerous and evil that you cannot be in a room safely if a gun is present.

For the record, I have a CCW and have had one for 45 years. I never leave the confines of my home without it. I rarely carry openly, even though I live in an open carry state, but when I do it’s for the reason I stated in the second sentence of the first paragraph.
