Representatives of the Ukrainian military registration and enlistment offices began to hand out subpoenas in cemeteries. One of the mobilized was given a summons immediately after he buried his brother, who was also called for mobilization.

Drafting men to fight in wars in never popular (with the men being drafted), that's a given.

Still, there is, it seems to me a quantitative difference between an organized draft (as the USA had during the Vietnam war) that had draft boards and allowed both concientious objectors and the alternative of going to jail.

(Which Mohammed Ali famously took, eventually prevailing in the Supreme Court Per Curiam (unanimous position of the entire court) against the Kentucky draft board)

But that's just me. Many illustrious Freepers believe that Ukraine is a wonderful examplar of Democracy at it's best, and that no amount of US treasure is too much to gift them to continue their valiant deeds.

Ukraine is a “client state” of the United States..is not a democracy...Democracies don’t arrest political opponents, and they don’t shut down opposition media, both of which Ukraine has done. Freedom House, a nonpartisan think tank that ranks democracies, has labeled Ukraine “a transitional or hybrid regime....Ukraine ranks 'much lower' than Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — now members of the European Union that are considered full democracies.

Ukraine doesn’t have to be like the U.S. to be worthy of saving from the grip of a ruthless authoritarian. The Ukrainian people don’t want Russia to control their lives.

Like I said, get a life!
