Thunberg, indigenous protesters block Norway energy ministry over wind farms

OSLO (Reuters) -Environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg and dozens of other activists on Monday blocked entrances to Norway's energy ministry, protesting against wind turbines built on land traditionally used by indigenous Sami reindeer herders.

Thunberg, a vocal advocate for the ending the world's reliance on carbon-based power, said the transition to green energy could not come at the expense of indigenous rights.

"Indigenous rights, human rights, must go hand-in-hand with climate protection and climate action. That can't happen at the expense of some people. Then it is not climate justice," Thunberg told Reuters while sitting outside the ministry's main entrance with other demonstrators.

Norway's supreme court in 2021 ruled that two wind farms built in central Norway violated Sami rights under international conventions, but the turbines remain in operation more than 16 months later.

Reindeer herders in the Nordic country say the sight and sound of the giant wind power machinery frighten their animals and disrupt age-old traditions.

"We are here to demand that the turbines must be torn down and that legal rights must be respected," said Sami singer-songwriter, actress and activist Ella Marie Haetta Isaksen.

Sorry, Greta. To make an omelette, you have to break a few eggs. 🤡

We can’t have wind power either apparently. Thunberg won’t be happy until everyone is living in grass huts wearing loincloths and 90% of the world’s population is gone.

Oh. So wind farms are great, unless they are on “sacred land”.

What next, greta? reparations for the indigenous?

So no burning stuff to get electricity, but no wind farms either. And I'm guessing nuclear is also out of the question?

Many years ago I heard someone call enviros "anti-electricity woo-woos" and I thought it was a silly exaggeration.

I do not think that now.

It just hit me.

Does this means that Norwegians aren't indigenous to Norway?

Why not just drag them out of the way? I’ve seen Frenchmen do it to protesters blocking streets. One is allowed to protest, but not to impede business. Drag them out by their hair.

The Swedes are as indigenous as any people on Earth. Leftist trash fallacy is what “indigenous” means.

Neanderthals are the only true Indigenous folks anywhere—and they had no electricity.

Greta want us to follow their lead.

Go tell it to the eunuchs at the UN, Meatball. When Americans want any crap out of you, we’ll unscrew your head and dip it out.

"Hold on I though the greenies wanted wind turbines ???"

Last year Greta got a "Lump of Coal" for Christmas.

This year she wants a "Tesla".

My grandmother was one of those problematic Laplanders. During the famine in Norway at the end of the 1800s, the Norwegians decided to kill two birds with one stone. Instead of giving the starving Saami food, they gave them one-way boat tickets to America.

I have to agree with Greta on this one, if only to stick it to the Norwegians.
