GP does not “break news”. They regurgitate the work of others with splashy headlines designed to get clicks.
It’s a fact. Since they do this so often they inevitably are correct here or there, but their track record for stories like this is not great but they don’t care - they are on to the next boom, shock, and breaking headline to get clicks. They plagiarize and sometimes they don’t even credit the original author of the story as they steal the most salacious content for a juicy headline.
FWIW - I could easily believe the premise of the story because the big cartels are big business and nobody loves to get massaged by big business more than an American politician.
