Many towns in liberal states (and entire states) have passed laws that every new or remodeled house MUST have an EV charger. So you pay $25,000 whether you want it or not.
That does wonders for housing prices and availability.
Mandating EV chargers is a horrible idea, but I think $25,000 is a bit high.
If you already have a 240 V outlet then the changer is more like $300 to $1000 and it would make a lot more sense to get one that matches your car. Retrofitting for a 240 V outlet could be an additional $500 to $2500. Having the outlet added to a house during construction should be at or below the $500 figure.
Like I say, a bad idea, but not $25,000.
