I’ll never forget my parents’ reaction when I was accepted to the University of California at San Francisco’s medical school. Having attended segregated schools, my mother and father were thrilled that their daughter would attend a fully integrated, top-tier institution.
When I graduated with a medical degree in 1973, a Black woman in a class of mostly White men, there was a real sense that the days of obsessing over skin color and making race-based assumptions about our fellow human beings was finally fading — and, hopefully, soon gone for good.
Apparently not. That racial obsession has come rushing back — in academia, politics, business and even in my beloved medical profession. But now it’s coming from the opposite direction. The malignant false assumption that Black people are inherently inferior intellectually has been traded in for the malignant false assumption that White people are inherently racist.
That is the basic message conveyed by “implicit bias training,” which is now mandatory for California physicians; it is a message that I believe is harmful both to physicians and patients. There is a sad irony in all this, because the misguided focus on racism is intended to improve the health and well-being of Black patients in particular.
The law, which took effect last year, includes other bias targets, including gender identity, age and disability. But in practice, such training — a mainstay of the diversity and inclusion industry, worth an estimated $3.4 billion in 2020 — is overwhelmingly about race.

Remarkable insight. She is probably nearing retirement, and doesn’t care what the ghouls think.
Will we ever reach a time when people are judged by the content of their character? We are rapidly moving away from it and it is the left that is fomenting it.

I have been convinced over the years that this is not a false assumption. The liberals, dems, whatever, who say that black people are too stupid to get driver’s licenses, to use the internet, to obtain the services of accountants and lawyers (Biden said that one), with absolutely no push back by black leaders (who even seem to endorse that opinion), tells me the liberals’ statements are indeed true. I mean, what would you do if someone made a general statement that you are incapable of performing every day tasks? Would you agree, or explain to them that that is not the case?
I can see medical service 20 years from now:
Patient: Doctor, I have a sharp pain in my chest and have difficulty breathing.
Doctor: I’m sorry but the internet is down and I can’t determine the causes that might be present in your case so just relax and I’ll be back when it comes up. There are many copies of the “Woke” magazine you can browse through while you wait.

We had mandated diversity training at General Dynamics. We all sat through it, but the effect was to really annoy us. Turns out you aren’t allowed to tell a joke or even listen to someone tell a joke. Because listening without challenging the joke teller was as bad as telling the joke which could result in a write-up or dismissal. Not challenging someone made you a “condoner.”
As the UNC story yesterday stating they were removing DEI proceedings from the school, I see this as a sparkle of light that pushback against the DEI and race stuff is happening. I was shocked to see the WaPo print this story.

Most have zero character and can’t be trusted as far as you can throw them.
It would be great to have a free and fair discussion on the intelligence of black people.

How else could a 16 year old autistic girl get launched to global coverage? The media amplifies the voices they choose.
Just like Paul Ryan does not represent the majority of conservative movement, black “leaders” do not necessarily represent the majority of black people.

My comment was sort of sarcastic. You’re preaching to the choir about media generated celebrities. I’ve been saying that for years, with Greta Thunburgh (sp) as my prime example. But let me ask you this; can you quote one black person, of any political side, or from any source, disputing that black people can’t get driver’s licenses? I really can’t think of one. As a new school year begins, Oregon students will no longer be required to demonstrate skills in reading, writing, and math. For five years until 2026, an Oregon high school diploma will no longer guarantee academic achievement, but only participation in a system with undefined parameters. The legislators, school districts, and the governor supporting Senate Bill 744 saw that this “will benefit Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color”.
The state has adopted the position held by many 19th century abolitionists. When I read The Life and Times of Fredrick Douglass, one passage always stayed with me. After speaking to an abolitionist audience, Douglass considered the evening a great success, because he concluded his talk believing these people were convinced, he was equally human with them. He mentioned this as a significant event, because many strong supporters of black freedom questioned whether these people were fully human. If educators would treat minorities as individuals, they would design programs allowing opportunities for achievement commensurate with those they have presumed for whites.
I remember Dr. Martin Luther King saying, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character…..little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.”
That statement of brotherhood still makes sense to me.
