ST. LOUIS — A 13-year-old boy is the latest arrest in connection with a suspected attempted carjacking in January that left a woman dead.
On Jan. 24, 38-year-old Kay Johnson was fatally shot while pulling her car into her garage in the 4700 block of Compton Avenue. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Johnson's 14-year-old daughter was in the car with her when she died.
At the time of Johnson's death, St. Louis police said they believed she was one of several victims in a string of recent attempted or confirmed carjackings.
On Friday, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department announced that a 13-year-old boy had been arrested in St. Louis County on suspicion of first-degree murder and robbery in connection with the case.
This comes after a 14-year-old boy was arrested on Jan. 28 in St. Louis County on suspicion of second-degree murder and first-degree robbery in connection to the shooting.
Both teens were being held at the St. Louis County Juvenile Detention Center.
St. Louis police did not release the names of either of the teens.
On Jan. 25, a car that a police source said was wanted in connection Johnson's shooting crashed in St. Louis after a police pursuit. Three suspects, ages 16, 17 and 18, were taken into custody after the crash.

More likely he will do a few months in Juvie jail then get released on probation after which it will be only a short time before he does it again.

They're demoralizing.
Punishment for this kind of crime needs to have real teeth and hurt bad. That way, the perpetrators will get what they deserve, and it might serve as an object lesson for other young miscreants. There was a carjacking in one of the far north suburbs of Chicago the other day — a nice area. It happened to a pregnant woman in her own driveway. Her toddler was in the back seat. The woman was run over and injured but will survive. The car was found abandoned some distance away. The toddler was out of the car and a bypasser stopped him from wandering into traffic. There could have been a multilevel tragedy, and for what? Make these punks wish they had never been born.

Unless MO law has substantially changed since I was involved the juvenile ‘justice’ system, what will happen to the lad is that he’ll be sentenced to a “youth center” to be freed with no criminal record on his 18th birthday. He might well be freed sooner, but certainly no later.

When carjackers go out in their planned crimes I believe they have made up their minds whether to kill the occupant or occupants or not. Thus, there is premeditation involved with only the name and description of the occupants to be determined.
