R. Kelly dodged an effective life sentence Thursday when a Chicago judge tacked on just one extra year to his 30-year punishment behind bars.
The 56-year-old disgraced R&B singer was sentenced in his Illinois case to 20 years in prison — with 19 to run concurrently with his existing, 30-year sentence out of Brooklyn.
That means he’ll only serve one extra year behind bars, and would be eligible for release when he is 80 years old.

R Kelly: Black music for black people. He was the soundtrack to black culture for 20+ years.
Too bad. I hear he was an aspiring rapper
“would be eligible for release when he is 80 years old”
Great, so I’m going to have to wait 24 more years at least to find out how “Trapped in the Closet” ends.
Plenty of white people love his music. I looked it up: He had 6 #1 records on the pop charts, 4 that hit #2, and several others in the top 10. Likewise, he had 2 #1 singles, and many others in the top 10. You don’t get all that if only black people are buying your records.
Nonetheless, it is black music made for black people. That whites like it is of no consequence.
I think a lot of it is made by black people for white audiences.

Good point! Consider how many feckless whites were 100% onboard and enthusiastic about Black Lives Matter.
