I realize that the history of the area is very complex. But if I am an ethnic Hungarian/Romanian whose family has lived in what is now Ukraine for generations, am I somehow not a Ukrainian citizen? Should my last name exempt me from the draft?

My dad and uncles’ Danish last name did not exempt them from service in WWII.

There are some Hungarian nutjobs still butthurt about losing their low rent empire over 100 years ago. They make natural allies with Putin’s Russia since they are also exhibiting historical delusions these days.

"My dad and uncles’ Danish last name did not exempt them from service in WWII."

My mother and her brother came to the U.S. from Canada when young with their mother. My uncle who wasn't a citizen enlisted in the U.S. Army in WWII. The Army took him to Niagara Falls, and had him walk back across the Rainbow Bridge from the Canadian side, in order to have a date of entry for him. On his way to California, to ship overseas, during his stop at Fort Sam Houston, he was naturalized an American citizen.
