DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told CNN’s “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” on Sunday that when he says the border is secure, he does not mean that people aren’t able to cross the border illegally, because “by that measure, the border has never been secure.”
When asked how he can say the border is secure, Mayorkas said, “Right now, the United States has millions of jobs opening due to the economic success of this administration. We have progressed in conquering the pandemic far more than the countries to the south of Mexico, and that makes the United States an appealing place of destination for people fleeing persecution or otherwise in desperate need of a better life.” […]

The secretary accused Republicans of communicating the message to smugglers that the border is open. […]

A Secure Border Means People Seeking to Illegally Cross the Border are Interdicted. See, e.g. Berlin Wall 1961-1989.
There’s always been some people who manage to cross the border and live here illegally, but we’re not talking about a few but about thousands upon thousands in a short period of time. What was a manageable trickle is now an invasion.
Mayorkas’ family appears to have come here shortly after Castro took over. His mother escaped the Holocaust in Romania; he seems to have learned nothing from his family’s experiences, or more likely what he “learned” at UC Berkeley shaped who he is now.
So is Brandon’s boss.
If you’re scared to bring that up, then they are not polite company.
