If it is a floor vote, the most that can be done is get the other side to agree to have one of theirs not vote.

Can he vote on Senate business during this time?Only if the Senate allows proxy voting. Last session, the Senate only allowed proxy voting in committees, but not for floor votes. I don't know if the rules have been changed.
