Industrial accidents about on par for prior years, but I suspect that the retirement of experienced employees combined with the lack of motivated/educated/experienced replacements (”Help Wanted” signs still up everywhere) is contributing to an uptick in accidents.

One web page implies that they process scrap brass, which means heat, which means it might have been a gas leak.
Likewise with rail derailments. On average there are about 1000 per year. That’s around 2.7 per day. Fortunately, most aren’t catastrophic charlie foxtrots like the recent one.
