No, Americans with dual citizenship are to be distrusted per se and those who elect to become expats doubly so. They appear to me to be manipulating the business or financial world and taking advantage of US citizenship to leverage some sort of financial advantage. This person is pretty bold in saying Americans ought to to shed blood and treasure for foreign states that he has some family tie to and the dumb yankees should be delighted to have this marvelous opportunity. You were in Viet Nam, how can you swallow this beltway bs. Don’t you realize the only thing you represented was a pawn to be used?

You carry around in your head tapes that play overand over about what ever trauma your family suffered by being in the Pale or just because of Russian state regulations inimical to your ancestors. Your ancestors that came to the US brought them with them as Irishmen did in detesting the British. These attitudes are passed on from one generation to another. You don’t make the interests of the country you were born in more important than your ancestral resentments. Now you son’t even live in this country but you demand that the US act to oppose Russia, a country you nuture irrational resentment against. You want Americans to sacrifice their money and potentially their lives to satisfy an ancestral grudge against another country. That is why you are not truly an American and view the United States as some sort of resource pool to be used to satisfy an irrelevant ethnic grudge.Americans and their country do not exist to spend money and blood to help you feel better about events you never witnessed done to people you never knew.As with the Croatian I will tell you the same thing. Be wholly American or leave for good.

But OK, let’s give your argument a look-see. My ancestors came from the Pale of Settlement. True enough. But therefore, I want to defend Ukraine against the Russian imperialists? Not hardly. If it were up to ancestors living in the Pale of Settlement, I would want the Russia to bomb those MFers into the stone age for all they did to my ancestors and extended family. Chmelnicky, Banderus? Just the tip of the iceberg. We’re talking blood libels, pogroms and petty humiliations and large crimes through the centuries. I would have no sympathy whatever for Ukrainians. So so much for your thesis of my motivations, that you know nothing about.

America, like it or not, is the guardian of the free world. Ukraine for all its many faults past and present, is moving towards greater freedom and some form of democracy, and integration into Europe, both economically and culturally. They don’t want to stay mired in the Slavic dark ages with Putin, Chmelnicki, Banderas and Rzirinovsky’s Pamyatniks, but to become a part of the culture of England, France, Germany (its present day) and America. America has a responsibility to help them in this long road. Not to give them bazillions of dollars in “aid” that they then partially kick back to American law-makers as payoffs, nor to pay for their pension plan, nor to keep this war going indefinitely. That’s not in Ukraine’s interest, nor America’s, nor the free world’s. But to actually Help them along the way, which they have to traverse themselves. I’m all for the idea of helping Ukraine, but not in the form that Brandon et al. are doing it, blowing up a Russian pipeline or dissipating American war-making capacity so that Ukraine and Russia are still going at it forever, and America is totally unprepared to help Taiwan when the time comes.

Your argument has as its conclusion that Jews, Irishmen, etc., cannot have a voice in the dialogue about America’s interests, only the “real Americans,” among which you number yourself. Sorry, but that’s not American thinking, it’s Nativism, and it sucks ba##s.
