Old judge Barrow was quiet the gentleman and made his rulings based upon the law. There are no more Democrats such as him in the legal profession in Athens, GA.

“Quite” the gentleman...not “quiet”.
It’s been many years, and memories fade, but I think it was his mother that was the progressive that ran city government.
Of course if you go back to John’s great grandfather, he fought in the war before becoming a senator and later a judge. And the chain goes back to Gov. Lumpkin in the 1830s. So all part of the Southern aristocracy.
