The “third party plan” for Trump may attract a lot of intrigue, but I don’t think it’s actually that possible under our system, which is designed to prevent “sore losers” from sabotaging the winner of the primary of one of our two representative parties.

It takes a lot of time and effort for each party to get their candidates name as a acceptable candidate for President in each state.

Therefore Trump couldn’t just switch parties in the middle of the state primaries, and still have time to register in all the states for the general election under a different party.

He’d have to drop out of the Republican primary almost immediately, is my understanding. And he’d have to find a party ahead of time to help him get all that setup, which would certainly leak out.

"Sore loser" laws would deny Trump ballot access in several states, as many as forty, I believe.

Nonetheless, he could mount a write-in campaign. I don't think there's any law that prevents people from simply writing his name in.

Of course he won't win but to Trump it would no longer be about winning, but rather burning the whole place down.

Personally, I don't think Trump would do this. Not only would it earn him the animosity of millions of his former supporters but at some point he would like a Republican in the White House to help shut down the various kangaroo court investigations that are draining his time and resources. And perhaps invite him to attend his official portrait unveiling.

I don't think Trump will run third party. This is Soros' and Democrats' wishful thinking. I believe if it gets to the point where the primaries aren't going his way and the writing is on the wall, he'll drop out with dignity and to save face for "health reasons" and then back the GOP frontrunner (taking credit if he wins, of course, but that's a minor indulgence to pay).

I'm reposting this here just to spread the Good News Of Trump to droop, and the third Ronlim in here who is so insignificant I can't recall his name lofl...

Joke's on you (bEagle), as usual...

Any party that has made the general election ballot can still swap out the candidate. You only have to beat mail-in ballot headlines.

Given mail-in ballots in a Presidential election year won't be printed anywhere in any state until the last convention affirms their President and VP candidates, Trump could either quietly avatar an "American Party" 3rd-party all along, and swap out before, say, Easter, when the GOP primary winner will have been decided; or he could simply take over the Libertarian or Alliance or Constitution nomination, having quietly ensured that they had a full 50-state ballot rep beforehand.

In fact, he could even change the name of the Alliance or Constitution Party to the "MAGA Party", as long as he made the mail-in ballot printing.

So, suffer President Trump living rent-free in your empty minds. Schadenfreude!
