Brent Eldridge had heard that prices for natural gas were high this winter, but nothing prepared him for how bad it could be.
When he opened the envelope from Long Beach’s utility department, he couldn’t believe the total: $907.13, nearly eight times higher than his bill at the same time last year.
“It made me want to puke,” said Eldridge, 48, a pastor.
Household budgets in the Golden State, already stretched thin as prices soar for everything from rent to eggs, are being pummeled by monster gas bills.
Southern California Gas Co. and Pacific Gas & Electric began warning customers in January that they would see higher bills after the wholesale price of natural gas hit record highs. But reality didn’t sink in for many customers until their bills started arriving later in the month.

Bills have soared “to levels that we haven’t seen in the last 20 years,” Richardson said. “We know families are struggling to make ends meet.”

SoCalGas and PG&E attributed rising costs to unusually cold weather

California imports about 90% of its natural gas.
...
The increase is not fair for working-class families.

Lionel Mares .. reading the fine print of his bill, which said he was being charged $3.45 per therm (one unit of natural gas), up from 84 cents at the same time last year.

California votes blue and really is blue now. Tough cookies.
Definitely PDJT’s fault!!!
lol It was below 40 this morning with frost on all the roofs. Right here in Torrance Ca. South of LAX 5 miles.
As you see Natural gas bubbling up from the bottom of the ocean in Santa Barbara! lol
Implication being that it is "fair" for other people
It would be interesting to see a real financial analysis on the cost of "going solar" with the capital costs, amortization schedule, life of installation, actual power produced, etc.
These are all proud democrats firmly planted on the back porch of the plantation bosses, Suck it Up!!!
An artificial scarcity created by Democrats. We have enough natural gas to last hundreds of years.
Like the one idiot who said he would have done things differently if they had told him gas was going to go up. Do these people in California live in a giant bubble or something?
The stupid is so strong in those people
But reality didn’t sink in for many customers until their bills started arriving later in the month.
Snap back to reality
Oh, there goes gravity
that California imports about 90% of its natural gas, is NOT the problem...
This is intentional. It’s throughout the country. It’s how the left tries to force us off “fossil” fuels without any legislation.
You asked that question like you think it really mattered who people voted for in Kali. Once you have perfected the steal you can't be voted out.
Not really, you get what you are willing to accept, right up until you can no longer resist.
I voted with my feet 9 years ago.
Beat you by three years.
There are huge oil and gas deposits off the coast of Santa Barbara. A friend of my dad’s was a drilling engineer with Exxon. The drilled several offshore wells in the mid/late 1970’s. Some time in the early 80’s the state ordered them shut down and capped off.
Last month the people downstairs in the 3 BD apt. had a bill about 1200.
Likewise upstairs.
I use heating oil.
Nov, 2020 - $1.86 gal.
NOV, 2022 - $4.90 gal.
“You’re usually still paying the same amount for the gas. It just averages over the year or so. So come summer when you use little/no gas, you’ll still have a $340 gas bill.”
That is partially correct. The cost/therm is averaged, but I don’t use it for heat in the summer. Just cooking and hot water. For me gas is up in winter, down in summer, reverse that for electricity. I actually have saved money on this plan.
