His support among Republicans at this early stage of the primary cycle puts him in rare company.
Is Ron DeSantis the next Scott Walker? It’s a question I’ve been hearing a lot lately.
The premise is that there’s an important similarity between the two: They both earned the affection of conservatives by “owning the libs” as governors, rather than by giving soaring speeches or otherwise demonstrating the skills to win a presidential nomination.
In the end, Mr. Walker’s success in Wisconsin did not translate to the national stage; the implication is that Mr. DeSantis’s success in Florida might not translate either. A wave of articles over the last few weeks has questioned whether he has the charisma, charm and likability to win the nomination. If he falters, the ending of his campaign might read a like lot the story of Walker for President.
But, at least at the beginning of the race, Mr. DeSantis is no Scott Walker. He would start the campaign in a very different and far stronger position, even if there is still no way to know whether he “has what it takes” to succeed against former President Donald J. Trump. What sets Mr. DeSantis apart from Mr. Walker? To be blunt: how many people already say they want him to be president.
In this narrow but important respect, Mr. DeSantis has a lot more in common with Barack Obama or Ronald Reagan than Mr. Walker or the other promising first-time candidates who did not live up to high hopes in recent years, like Kamala Harris, Rick Perry or Wesley Clark.
Overall, Mr. DeSantis has 32 percent support in polls taken since the midterm elections. This is not a fleeting product of a wave of favorable media coverage. Instead, he has made steady gains in the polls over the last two years.

DeSantis is okay in my book. But I’m not turning to DeSantis because he’s so great. I’m turning to DeSantis because Trump is acting goofier and goofier. It’s like he has learned nothing.
Trump was my choice for 2024 right after the steal of 2020. But as I noted above, Trump has pushed me away from him. So now I’m looking elsewhere.
Others might disagree with me, and that’s fine. That’s what primaries are for.
>> What sets Mr. DeSantis apart from Mr. Walker?
The fifth pro DeSantis entry by the Left. No doubt I missed a few.
How does it feel to be in the company of the Left? Does it make you proud? Is your TDS abated?
Very weird. The New York Democrat Times is telling Republicans what they should do.
I’m sure they have the best interests of conservative politics in mind!
To be blunt: how many people already say they want him to be president.A bigger question is why?
Here's a fact no one has ever disputed (except in their minds) I'll post it until I'm blue in the face:
Trump accomplished more for America in one 4yr term than any President in your lifetime.
Until I hear something like MAGA or better from DeSantis or anyone else they're a non-starter.
Disney, transgenders and PTA meetings might be important to a few but they aren't too high on a life changing scale.
BTW, I would be more impressed if he spent $10M bussing illegals back across the border. He's appeasing the left while pretending to poke them in the eye to please his Neanderthal followers..
🤣😂🤣
Why do you guys constantly scream about not being manipulated by the MSM then turn around and gladly follow the obvious intended plan of this article as a way to ‘slyly’ damage DeSantis?
The establish always tries to pick the weakest Republican candidate. Not a new tactic. DeSantis is going to have to beat Trump in the primaries. It will be a deeply divisive campaign. He’d be smart to skip 2024.
I liked how Walker gutted the teacher unions in Ws. I briefly worked for the his campaign in 2016. He barely got a word in during the first debate and quickly flamed out. Cruz campaign tried hire me. Offered good money too, but I already jumped over to Trump.
Yup. As I recall, the establishment burnt up 100 million on Jeb. Snicker.
That was their money invested in Herr Hillary.
The were hoping that Jeb! could draw off even 2% in the final analysis (by sitting at home during the election).
If DeSantis is smart he’ll emulate Scott Walker and drop out early - or better yet never join the fray…wait until 2028.
In 2016, everyone but the clueless Ted Cruz was able to see the writing on the writing on the wall. DeSantis won’t make that mistake.
What was he supposed to have learned Daddy? Maybe the Democrats, Deep Swamp, and Globalists weren't hard enough on him? Maybe he wasn't punished enough for 7+ years? It's amazing how fickle people can be.
Nobody wants to have a choice between two 80-year-old men for President.
Just man up and say you don't want him to run because you think he can beat out your first choice in the primary.
+1
Trump or bust.
Pretty sure a Governor can’t send illegals back across the border. Thats why they are sending them to other cities.
I’ll bet the J6 people locked up hope DeSantis doesn’t run. He says they deserve to be where they are
I know right? And he tweets mean things.
Plus orange man bad. I’m so ‘concerned’
