How Biden Got Republicans to Run Away From Their Own History
Time Online ^ | 2/12/2023 | Eric Cortellessa

An odd thing happened at this week’s State of the Union: President Biden and congressional Republicans got into a skirmish about an issue over which, apparently, they completely agree. Neither party, it seems, wants to make changes to Social Security or Medicare during upcoming negotiations to raise the debt ceiling.

It is time to end Social Security and Medicare. People can work to pay for their own upkeep.

If the interest rates increase anymore, SS will die on its own accord.

“Neither party, it seems, wants to make changes to Social Security or Medicare”

Which is what makes this notion that brandon somehow baited and trapped republicans into saying that they don’t want to kill ssa and medicare through their reactions at the SOTU so idiotic.....that jackass ain’t even close to being that clever.

My wife paid into social security since she was 16 years old. She passed away two years ago at 51 years old. We got $250 dollars from social security. What a joke. If she put that money into an IRA or other account it would have been passed down to the kids. Not social security. The government confiscated that money.

Republicans always let the Democrats define their history. The worst example is “Republicans are Racist” and “Republicans are KKK.”

My pension is a teacher retirement pension. All of the money I paid into it, as well as the interest it earned over the years was mine. I was free to withdraw it at any time. Had I died before using my contributions up, my wife would have inherited what was left.

Time has passed and I am now drawing on the money my school district paid into the fund that matched my contributions.

As a side note, because I was covered by a public school pension, my social security benefit from money earned before I was a teacher was cut by something like 45%.

And as another side note, when my mother died, we had to return that month’s check, since SS pays advance. Also no $250, that’s for surviving spouses only.

Born in 1970s, never expect a dime from SS as Medicare and Medicaid are constantly eating every tax dollar. The scraps are paying for everything else. The sooner you think of SS as just a tax on income, the easier it all becomes.

For those readers drawing on social security today, go blow it on things that last longer than 12 minutes, leave structures, businesses and children and grandchildren with educations and work ethics. The current bond issuer may die a death, but the people of the North America still lead a chaos filled world.

As much as Biden has squandered it could have saved Social Security or Medicare for many years to come.

Democrats have been called many things smart isn’t one of them.

so sorry about your wife, so young. Yes, you were fleeced by the govt. TX was able to have private accounts in the 80’s during Reagan’s tenure, 3 counties took advantage, their accounts faired better than social security.

Why do we need a new FBI building?

Everything that is being spent by the "We the People" should be looked at.

We need to look at cutting dollars from food stamps and welfare checks being written out also.

We need everything on the table to see where we can cut to save $$$.

The Budget process in this country is ridiculous and how easily they forget how We the People do our budgets on the kitchen table..

programs put in place and later depleted buy the VERY same people and then added to the federal budget as a means to extort and increase of the debt ceiling
