I watched a video yesterday of
Army Col. Lisa Jaster who was the first woman (?) to graduate from Ranger School and she said that the Army is still devoted to merit/ability over diversity/equity. She agreed that there is no other way for troops that are expected to engage an enemy in combat.
She also added that there is an internal conflict between some senior officers who want to be more inclusive and those who believe in merit-only.
She said that her experience with Ranger School was that there was no accommodation made for gender. The same rules and expectations apply to everyone.

Army Col. Lisa Jaster was given her Ranger Tab precisely because she is a woman. The tales abound from those who participated
in her coddled, protected and secure trip through Ranger School about this daughter of a General being selected to be a
poster child for "You Go Girl" inclusion.

I lived in Columbus, GA, adjacent to Ft. Benning for four years.
1: They most certainly did have different rules for different sexes.
2. Where they didn't, the rules were generally relaxed to make it easier for everybody.
