Yes he does. It may be hard for his parents to refuse any of his requests or demands right now, but no good will come from him staying wound up with grief about this. This kid will probably benefit from some therapy, umless he has family members wise enough to guide him out of this dark space.
If he has an uncle or cousin who is a combat veteran, the two of them need to have a solid, private conversation.
