Fetterman relies on a tablet to transcribe what is being said to him. His hearing issues are ivaruable and can get worse when he is in a stressful or unfamiliar situation. He has described it as trying to make out the muffled voice of the teacher in the “Peanuts” cartoon, whose words are difficult/impossible to understand.

So he can read, then? Knew a guy like that once - could hardly speak but was taking (and passing) college courses in chemistry. Aphasia, they called it.
