Yes the passport does work. I maintain mine. And I have not gotten the real ID.
Although I have refused to fly since covid started and see no reason to change my mind now. Which of course isn’t going to matter when they start requiring one to go down the street.

I don’t have real ID—if that means I can’t fly so be it—nowhere I really need to be.
