I was not saying that we do such a thing, I don’t even think we need to be in Europe anymore. I was just expressing how we operate is pretty efficient.

Constitutionally, the only standing military authorized is the Navy. For variety of reasons Congress re-authorizes the Army and Air force every few years, but that is not Constitutionally mandated. That is a political choice.
I think it all should be put under the Navy.
so all we have are Sailors and Marines.
States have reserve units.
Full disclosure; USAF 1973-1978.

Yes, an outwards facing military would be better. It is not like a destroyer could be a threat to our domestic liberty.

I respectfully disagree on one of your points. I think “leadership” of the 8th Air Force in WWII made the biggest contribution to defeating the Nazis. Had that leadership been under the thumb of the Navy, resources might have been drained off to pay for ships etc;

One of the most famous “ego clashes” in WWII, or ever, was McArthur and Truman. As far as I know, there was no ego clashing going on at the very top of the 8th Air Force (yes, it was part of the Army then but Eisenhower was in charge and he was the all time Master of soothing egos).
