Germans are, at their heart, true conformists. Its not a bad thing, usually. Like Japanese, its why their streets are (mostly) clean and they run an efficient economy.
Unfortunately, if those at the top pursue idiotic, asinine, utopian schemes (which seems to happen every couple generations), die Deutschen Schafe can't help but follow along
