The Chinese spy balloon that was shot down by a US fighter jet off the coast of South Carolina on Saturday was the product of a factory based out of a naval base on a remote island in the Communist nation, it has been revealed.
A new report from the Washington Post details that the airship, which triggered a dramatic, and public, spying saga that worsened Chinese-U.S. relations, has been a key part of Beijing's intelligence operations for years.
The report says that the Chinese military has previously sent balloons into the airspace of geopolitical rivals such as Japan, India and the Philippines.
The Pentagon earlier said that at least four other balloons were previously detected over US airspace, in Hawaii, Florida, Texas and Guam, three of those were during Donald Trump's presidency.
Last Friday, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken postponed his trip to China hours before he was due to leave because of the balloon. While on Tuesday, China's defense minster rejected an overture from US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to discuss the events of the last week.

“previously detected”? When and where did this “detection”take place? And how was the”detection” done?

Is it possible to launch balloons from a base and it’s still a “secret base”?

If you zoom in on the 4 piers you can see some submarines. That ‘remote island’ may be Dongzhou. It looks like it is all grass which would be helpful for laying out the giant balloon before takeoff.

THE MAIN THING CHINA JUST LEARNED
The Chinese now know they can send a slow moving balloon with any kind of payload across America without it being attacked by our military.
If they try to send a fast moving ICBM with an EMP bomb, a biological device or an A-bomb they know we will attempt to destroy it.
But now they know they can send pretty much any kind of payload at all in a slow moving balloon and the Biden administration will let it cross US territory at will.

The DailyMail article has a picture of a nuclear sub about to enter that tunnel.
China is just playing their victim card. They learned that play from us.

It’s most likely “steered” by changing its altitude to place it in winds that are flowing roughly in the desired direction. Prevailing winds aloft are west to east, but the exact direction varies at different altitudes. High and low pressure systems moving across the country also have winds of varying directions circulating around them, though they is more prevalent nearer to the surface, and these balloons are more likely using the jet stream.
Agreed but there is no way they can precisely steer it over a chosen target such as a military base as they claim has been happening.
My guess is that they are just generalizing in their statement and the reality is that the balloon simply sailed over a state that has a military base. Which almost every state has.
And as I've previously stated, what kind of pictures could it be taking, if they are, that can't be done by their own satellites or simply checking out Google Earth? GE has even shown me my car in my driveway.
