“The western territories of Ukraine will be safe if they temporarily come under the protectorate of the Polish state.” Polish Prime Minister Matteusz Morawiecki.
Again, I doubt this Twitter post is correct, that Morawiecki publicly stated this recently, although some such idea may have well been floated about at some point.
As for Poles over-reaching, Morawiecki has certainly got too big for his britches lately, lecturing the Germans over Ukraine and trying to set Poland up as a power broker. Now the Germans have thought for awhile that the Poles have been acting downright crazy over the Ukraine thing, but Morawiecki's latest remarks are really over the top.
It will be interesting to see how the Germans go about knocking him off his high horse. Most assuredly they will.
Germany needs to butt out, they have no room to say anything about Poland.
Yes. Exactly.
Thank you.
“The only way you would ever see Polish troops enter Western Ukraine is if the area was directly threatened by the Russians. And the Russians aren’t that stupid.”
Why?
Germany hasn’t said anything about Poland that I can find.
Morawiecki has had a lot to say about how the Germans should do more for Ukraine and a bunch of over the top silly stuff about Ukraine being a bastion of freedom, Western civilization depending on it, etc.
If I recall correctly, Lemberg and Lwow are two different names for Lviv.
give Lwów back to Poland.
Sure. Why not?
And then the Germans will want Danzig and Breslau back.
I don’t want to open up that can of worms.
It was the Austrian city of Lemberg, then became the Polish city of Lwow, then Russified to Lvov under the Stalin-Hitler pact, then snatched back by Hitler (Lemberg again) then back to the USSR as Lvov, and finally renamed Lviv in 1991.
Morawiecki announces a new world order without Russia. “Poland is ready to take co-responsibility”
His underwear has globalism symbols on it.
Just get right out there as pro-globalism.
Wonder why Polish farmers are upset?
I really like Poland and Polish people, but this guy has been grating on my nerves lately. He lectured the Germans in a high-and-mighty fashion, too. Which I imagine did not sit well.
They want 1.3 trillion in reparations from Germany.
I know. It’s a pretty shaky case, legally, as best I understand it. The political opposition in Poland claims it’s a vote-buying scheme ahead of the next election. I am not up on Polish internal politics and don’t feel competent to comment on that.
They won’t have to invade
Tks
The Germans want to know if they could get a piece of that. Mentioned something about having experience administering a Groß-Gouvernement.
Regards,
Moreover, despite Poland's NATO membership, Putin has made clear that after subduing Ukraine, he expects to dominate and bully Poland into neutrality or aligning with Russia. The Poles will not accept that and would prefer that the western region of Ukraine become a Polish protectorate and buffer statelet against a Russian invasion.
This may all seem implausible except that the long history of Eastern Europe includes episodes in which Poland, Sweden, Lithuania, Ukraine, and Russia in various combinations and alliances viewed for dominance. Notably, the current Polish generosity and good spirit toward Ukraine and the massive flow of Ukrainian refugees marks a putting aside of previous hostility -- and a rare instance in which a country seems to have learned from history.
