The FAA on Saturday shut down air space near the Atlantic as the Pentagon gears up to shoot down the Chinese spy balloon.

At 2:40 p.m. ET, just off the coast of the South Carolinas, the Pentagon shot down the spy balloon.

On Tuesday, the US Navy posted photos showing sailors retrieving parts of downed Chinese spy surveillance.

Images that were posted on Twitter by the United States Fleet Forces show sailors from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 2 recovering a piece of the balloon on Sunday.

“US Navy Sailors assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 2 recover a high-altitude surveillance balloon off the coast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Feb. 5, 2023,” the agency wrote on Twitter.

LOL...when I saw that image, my first thought is that it looked like one of those Jon McNaughton illustrations, and I immediately thought “Oh, yeah! That’s Trump on the far right!”

Maybe they are worried that people will think they faked the take down. Of course you never know.

The most important thing to recover is the canisters they were spraying the newest attack virus from so we can start creating more killer vaccines...

The goals of depopulation through sudden-death-syndrome, miscarriages, and infertility must be continued...

Sure am glad I made it to 89 before they got this operation underway...
I remember when America was known as the “land of the free”...

Seeing the word Challenger reminded me of Space Shuttle disaster.

My next door neighbor worked the recovery mission. He was gone for months .

Reminds me of the incident when the Government/US Military issued photos of a deflated weather balloon in place of what eye witnesses says was a crashed UFO in Roswell NM on July 7, 1947. Trust this government?? No F in way!

If I were flying a research weather balloon, I would need some solar cells to power a transmitter, probably for data up to the satellite network. It would need a barometer, a digital thermometer and the a receiver for the Chinese BeiDou system (their fully operational GPS equivalent).

This way you could map temperatures and baro pressures to BeiDou location, and multiple measures of location get you windspeed.

You also need a deflate mechanism and a reciever to get the venting command for when the mission is done. It is, of course, that which failed. Only that. It’s why the weather minister was fired. That device’s failure caused all this upheaval.

And a power supply to charge batteries from the solar panels.

Now all they have to do is find some guys to lie about what is in the sensor package they eventually find, or create.

WHERE’S THE GANTRY???

Parts of it are right in the pictures provided. It looks like it was a framework of carbon fiber or some other lightweight tubes. Based on the video of the shoot down, the payload was impacted and smashed by the missile. Seems like it would have been more prudent to hit the balloon and leave the payload more intact for recovery.

It would have been a whole lot easier to forensically analyze the thing if they’d just punctured the balloon and let it drift gently to the ground somewhere around, oh, say, Montana?

That picture looks like the apostles casting nets not a world class surveillance operation. Pitiful.

Not so

All the guys are on the remote gunwale....and the boat is still tipping over

So there must be a load more balloon under water.

Sort of reminds me of this.

Luke 5:1-11 NLT

One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God. He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!

A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.”

“There are at least 9 guys on that little craft - that’s really crowded!”

You’d think so on small boats, but the printed transom plate says capacity—25.

Now ... the explanation.

High altitude balloons are made of the thinnest material possible and are generally quite fragile. They have to be. Weight of the balloon envelope detracts from possible payload weight. Inflating a high altitude balloon is a careful and tricky process. If you go too fast, you’ll tear it. If you go to slow, part of it will start to rise before you get enough helium in it ... and the wind may take over and tear it. There are some interesting videos on ewetewb showing the process.

A puncture of a balloon of that type has little or no effect on its altitude unless the puncture is at the exact top of the balloon envelope. There is very little pressure or density differential between inside and outside in a high-altitude balloon.
