Well ... attackers always have high casualty rates, especially when they have no armor, no air and were sent over flat terrain during an artillery war.
Significantly many of those casualties were from the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade - ‘elite’ Russian troops. 155th NI now wiped out, soon to be reborn with newly mobilized & untrained conscripts.
They’ve been reporting around 700 Russian soldiers, give or take, killed each day for quite a few days. Human waves: it’s the commie way. They’re ordered to charge from their trenches or die. Their Russian leaders stay behind to shoot them, if they retreat.

I feel bad for these men who really were good soldiers for their country and now no one will remember them except for their widows and orphan children.

No it not. Actually the territorial integrity of Ukraine was assured by Friendship Treaty of 1999. But in 2008 Ukraine violated this treaty by applying to NATO. And also Ukraine ended the treaty in 2018.

Budapest Memorandum was signed BEFORE a treaty of 1999. SO the treaty updated the ukie integrity guarantees of memorandum. And ukies signed this.
But in 2008 ukies violated the treaty applying to NATO. SO they blew up the integrity guarantees. Meaning they violated the treaty they signed and which guaranteed their borders.
