There’s No Alternative To America
HIghly Respected ^ | Feb. 6th, 2023 | Scott Greer

Posted on 02/06/2023 6:48:15 PM PST by River Hawk

It’s hard to be a proud American these days. We can still admire our great history, our high standard of living, and our incredible landscapes, but none of that changes the grim state of the nation. Walking around in an airport or a mall can make any conservative feel like a stranger in a strange land.

I hear constantly about right-wing students at elite universities and law schools who think America is over and want something new. They want to tear things down and start again. Out with the old, in with the new.

That may have some appeal in theory, but in practice, it’s cheap compensation for alienated conservatives. There is no material out of which to build a new, rightist America. No matter how unrecognizable, America as it currently exists is all we have. Anything that comes after it will probably be worse.

We need to go back to America. The current America is no alternate to America.

If you read the article, that’s basically what Scott is saying.

The problem is all these commie traitors and wannabes are…throwing the baby out with the bath water.

They accept America is all bad (is and was), and thus must be completely erased.

Instead of accepting that some things were bad, but much was incredibly wonderful, and thus only some things need to be changed/tweaked.

Bottom line, these liberals throw the baby out with the bath water.

America was the exception to history (makes me sad to say “was” instead of “is”}

Huh?!? Nobody on the right calls for any such thing. Only leftists do.

Many conservatives say the time is ripe for a “national divorce.” Despite the dissatisfaction felt by committed right-wingers, that alienation is not shared by a mass constituency. Secession/civil war would require millions of Americans to give up their homes, 401ks, and everything they’ve built up just so they can have Aunt Jemima on maple syrup bottles again. Conservatives can’t even be relied on to boycott the woke NFL, much less start their own nation. The majority of Americans are content with what they have and there is no separate identity for them to rally around.

Simply not true. A new nation of several states can have all those things.

I call it the “Nero complex”. Burn it down and rebuild to their own aggrandizement.

The only feasible way forward that I see is to find a way to get ALL the Independents to vote in the primary. Otherwise, we are stuck with trying to figure out which fringe candidate is the lesser evil in the general election.

If Independents have a say in the primary, the abortion ban goes away, reparations, CRT, and defund the police goes away, and law and order, jobs, infrastructure, and a secure border will be prioritized instead, as it should be.

Theoretically, yes. But Scott’s point is that now there is no serious critical mass for any sort of secession. As things stand now.
If, in the future, there is some sort of economic collapse, that could change.
We make predictions based on current trends but of course current trends can change.
So none of us really know.

I have posted this before. I was in Mongolia after the demise of the Soviet Union. I never saw a people more proud of their past and excited about the future.

In their case after 80 years of communism they were rediscovering their heritage of Buddhism and Ghengas Khan.

They were excited about the future, all the old heavy govt and regulations and old rules were gone. It was like the frontier for them. Everything was possible.

What heritage will we discover?

No it’s not. The parties have polarized to the point that the GOP had 25%, the Democrats have 31%, the Independents represent 41%, and then there is a smattering of third parties. The 41% are alienated by the anti-abortion is EVERYTHING! types, and the angry humorless Left CRT types. The Independents are basically down to trying to figure out which candidate is the least insane, and then holding their noses and voting for that less than ideal candidate because they are locked out of the primaries where those candidates are chosen.
