From what I read earlier, many were outside shivering in the cold afraid to go back inside for fear of aftershocks. Let’s hope they were still outdoors when it hit.

I’ve seen videos of 10-15 story buildings collapsing. This is horrific.

They are accustomed to earth quakes there but this double hit at such a high magnitude, plus the after shocks I'm sure they were hardly prepared for. Actually not much you can do when in an earthquake zone apart from trying to find the best building that will withstand it the most. In Turkey I doubt there's much of that option.
