It should have never been created in the first place. However, since it was created, it would be very disruptive to remove it. The want private savings accounts so those accounts can be taxed into non-existence, not because they have changed their values to libertarian ones.
It’s an entitlement for everyone who didn’t pay in and are getting disability benefits.
Those who get Medicare/SS disability benefits from being under the poverty line and didn’t pay in - should have benefits provided from a different budget/allocation - not from the retirees pot. Some on disability did pay in. There are 2 different types of disability payouts.
And it is a tax to you. It goes to pay all kinds of things in the regular budget like for those who didn’t earn or deserve social security.
And then you retire and they tax you again on it.
