There already are private tax advantaged savings options, 401ks and IRAs.

.
If you notice, no one, no outlet, no network has told us how much Biden has spent per day.

An easy Stat that would go along way to showing the precise problem.

That’s precisely why Politicians don’t use plain language.

They don’t want that conversation., believe me.

Typical Republican Party death march.

They just can’t help themselves.

Perhaps once somebody has 120 quarters in they might invest via Social Security into a participating state pension fund.

State pension funds might allow ordinary citizens to buy in independent of Social Security.

Social Security was created after stocks tumbled in value and banks went bust.

Mrs. Elder can either mainly fund her own retirement or the public almost surely will.

It should have never been created in the first place. However, since it was created, it would be very disruptive to remove it. The want private savings accounts so those accounts can be taxed into non-existence, not because they have changed their values to libertarian ones.

The main reason I voted for Trump was because he wasn’t gentle, or respectful. That crap doesn’t work anymore, within the evil world of politics today. Mike, take your pansy ass back where it came from. I wouldn’t vote for you, even if Jesus was your running mate.

Just to name two.

The one advantage of privatization would be that government doesn't have a pool of funds to leech off of and "borrow" from.

The Chilean privatization basically worked and was written by the University of Chicago free market economics professors.

Principles:

  1. For anyone over 60 or currently collecting-- no change and subsidize the deficit from the general fund as necessary.
  2. For anyone 59 or under-- reduce benefits by 2.5% per year under, all the way down to zero at age 19 or under.
  3. They contribute and their employer matches and equal amount into one of seven audited private accounts with various risk/return ratios.
  4. There is nothing to stop them (or an employer match) from contributing more, but the current tax rate on each is the minimum. There is also nothing magic about the number seven.

The economic effects of said plan not only dried up a source of government revenue to squander, but provided such a huge inflow into the private sector that Chile went from a third world country to a first world country in a single generation.

It’s an entitlement for everyone who didn’t pay in and are getting disability benefits.

Those who get Medicare/SS disability benefits from being under the poverty line and didn’t pay in - should have benefits provided from a different budget/allocation - not from the retirees pot. Some on disability did pay in. There are 2 different types of disability payouts.

Does social security need to be reformed? Yes.

Is it near the top of our priority list? No.

By bringing this up, Pence is just giving the Democrats something to demagogue. “The Republicans want to take away your social security!”

This is about as smart a move as when Lindsey Graham waded into the abortion debate just before the election and reinvigorated the Democrat base.

I went shopping today.

One store was selling lousy Chinese shoes for $50 & $60.

Banks are simply not paying interest rates high enough to keep up with inflation.

PVC plumbing parts used to be cheap.

"Yeah...I’ve paid into it since 1965!!!!!"

I had a couple of part-time jobs in the 60's before I graduated in 1965. Paid social security then, and throughout my whole adult life. Still have to pay taxes on part of my social security. I paid Medicare taxes too, since 1966 when it started. I could never understand why, after you paid into Medicare since 1966, you had to continue to pay for it once you became eligible for it, until the day you died. What the f*ck was I paying for all those years? Probably some dead-beat's SSI.
