Much ado about nothing.
There was no agreement, and there was nothing even remotely close to an agreement. Russia had a 15-point draft of demands, and Ukraine had a 10-point draft of demand. While there was some harmony between some of the points, Ukraine did NOT accept Russia’s key points, and Russia did not accept Ukraine’s key points, and thus the negotiations stalled.
There is nothing that says Boris Johnson scuttled an agreement because there never was an agreement to scuttle.
One of your links said, “Russia and Ukraine MAY have agreed on a TENTATIVE deal to end the war in April, according to a recent piece in Foreign Affairs. Russian and Ukrainian negotiators APPEARED to have TENTATIVELY agreed on the OUTLINES of a negotiated INTERIM settlement. Russia would withdraw to its position on February 23, when it controlled part of the Donbas region and all of Crimea, and in exchange, Ukraine would promise not to seek NATO membership and instead receive security guarantees from a number of countries.”
Note the non-committal, evasive words: May; tentative; appeared; tentatively; outlines; interim. In other words, there was nothing to “scuttle.”
Alos, it’s interesting that the above-quoted source admitted that Russia had already invaded and occupied parts of Ukraine PRIOR to its February 24, 2022 invasion; namely, those areas it controlled (Crimea — which it had illegally annexed back in 2014; and certain parts of Donbas).
The link also says that, “The biggest sticking point remains Russia’s demand that Ukraine recognise its 2014 annexation of Crimea and the independence of two separatist statelets in the eastern Donbas border region.”
Both of which are non-starters for Ukraine.
Russia is just doing what Russia does: Invade and annex and then demand acceptance...or else.
