Muscovy actually was a friend of The Golden Horde – Tatar-Mongols who burned Kyiv. Moscow dukes were fighting together with Tatar-Mongols against Kyiv princes.

No matter what transpires in greater Russia (The Ukraine, Byelorussia, and Russia) they will always exist on the fringe of civilization.

It’s their way of life.

Somehow I associate the name “Rus” with Scandinavian peoples who were using the river systems to trade with the middle east I think from a book on the Hansa.

Perhaps Ukraine can rename itself Wakanda. Glory to Wakanda.

The Rus were originally Swedish Vikings.

And you are correct. The name means people who row.

The first was Rurik who established at Novgorod.

The Rurikid dynasty or Rurikids, was a noble lineage founded by the Varangian prince Rurik, who established himself in Novgorod around the year AD 862. The Rurikids were the ruling dynasty of Kievan Rus’ (after the conquest of Kiev by Oleg of Novgorod in 882)

I see, so this must be the real reason why the Russia of today must be destroyed. Trademark infringement. When you get to the front, let us know how you’re doing.

Yes. Swedish Vikings. It was “Kievian Rus” to distinguish it from all the other Viking river settlements in Russia. The guys in Kiev just happened to be the most successful.

Pretty good hustle, taking furs, amber and slaves to Byzantium and the muslims in trade for silver and steel..

Watch Vikings Valhalla on Netflix. This is all covered. Kind of. But there are pretty girls. So, it’s OK.

So, I stopped watching it.

Well then by god, lets kill hundreds of thousands, or maybe even destroy the earth because of the great insult of 1721. Damned backwards Uke idiots.

This old world thinking, living in the deep past, is why they will always be a lesser society.

The Ukes will never be satisfied. This is the same tired Romulus and Remus, Cain and Abel tale they get wrapped up in. They see themselves as cheated out of a birthright by the other son who unjustly got glory that should have been theirs. They will always have a case of the red ass because their claim lost out in history. Ukraine thinks every Russian claim to greatness and respect should bee theirs. They are implacable and nothing but changing 500 years of history will make them get over it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romulus_and_Remus

“After arriving back in the area of the seven hills, they disagreed about the hill upon which to build. Romulus preferred the Palatine Hill, above the Lupercal; Remus preferred the Aventine Hill. When they could not resolve the dispute, they agreed to seek the gods’ approval through a contest of augury. Remus first saw six auspicious birds but soon afterward Romulus saw 12, and claimed to have won divine approval. They disputed the result: Remus insulted Romulus’ new city and was killed, either by Romulus or by one of his supporters.[4] Romulus then went on to found the city of Rome, its institutions, government, military and religious traditions. He reigned for many years as its first king.”

Yeah, they whacked her in the second season. That’s when they went to Novogrod. But yeah, that was a little funny.

Any flying eagles? Or what to hell ever they called them?

To think that they still debate whether a guy would still be alive when they did that.

They were going to do one on a guy…but they didn’t. Don’t remember why. I do recall that he deserved it.

The first season wasn’t as good as Vikings. But it got better.
