They have shot down a satellite with a Standard Missile, and have intercepted satellites with missiles fired from an F-15 in the early 1980’s. Though that capability was supposed to be a one-time only experiment/demonstration.
Unfortunately, once the missile had destroyed the balloon, a whole bunch of missile bits would fall back to earth.
They might hit a buffalo, and we’d be back at war with the Sioux.
