My grandmother had a mink coat made from mink trapped by my grandfather, and they knew how to care for and store it. It was at least 20 years old when my sister inherited it. Time had taken its toll and my sister had to reduce it to a mink stole so it didn’t look shabby on close inspection.

Something new in the ‘80s is unlikely to be impressive on inspection by this time. Given they’re mostly out of fashion, value not likely to be high.

I think Eastern Europe is still a big market.

Many possible reasons.

One is that power in Ukraine has shifted more to the military. Total war does that. The old boys network is no longer important, relatively speaking, in a society and economy on a war footing. And the military may be impatient with the old lot. They were likely getting in the way.

Another is that foreign players (largely military, or the Poles) are in a better position to call the shots. And they may well be impatient with the old lot too.

And then it may be that now that things have died down a bit, its no longer crisis after crisis, there is opportunity for housecleaning. Until the next crisis.
