Octavia Spencer Says She Experienced ‘More Racism’ In Los Angeles Than In Her Alabama Hometown

The Oscar-winning actress recalls encounters she experienced soon after moving to Hollywood.

Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer has revealed that she experienced more racism in Los Angeles than her hometown of Montgomery, Alabama.

After appearing on a recent episode of Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast, Spencer shared that she expected the West Coast, blue state of California, to be a “free and liberal thinking place,” after she moved there in 1996 but since has experienced “more racism” than her southern hometown.

“It is so funny. It’s right out of ‘Pretty Woman,’” the Truth Be Told actress said. “I remember going into a shop and being followed, like, at first, I didn’t even—I was just like so excited, like just walking around, and then I realized that I was being followed. It was kind of strange in that way.”

The Hollywood Walk of Fame recipient took a moment to speak highly of her southern belle roots, to which she said that "It's a beautiful place and beautiful people. You know, I love being from there." However, she further explained the intensity of the racism that she has experienced that the South is widely known for.

“Everywhere has its history […] You can’t deny that Southern history is intense. [But] what’s beautiful for me is, that stuff preceded me,” she said. “You know, I was a child of the ’70s… You know, as you grow older and the things that you can remember. That wasn’t a part of my history. I learned about it. It’s not everything—anything that I experienced.”

"That (southern racism) wasn’t a part of my history. I learned about it. It’s not everything—anything that I experienced.”

That's not going to sit well with the race baiters.

Cauliphonya is the home of new millennium racism. It was designed by the commie lib slobs in Hollywood.

I’m a native northerner who moved south a few years ago and I have to say she’s right. Id don’t see or hear as much racism down here as I did up there.

Me too. I moved to SC ten years ago. I have found relations between blacks and whites to be very cordial. In particular, children here, of all races, are raised to have good manners.

Since media and all the pinkos live in a bubble; they make shows and movies and produce “news” that reinforces their racist behaviors.
The vast majority of Americans don’t give a crap about skin color. We do care about culture and character. The character of leftists in non-existent.

Yep. Seen this in Rochester, NY in the 1965 race riots surfacing from agitation of southern "Amish" residents given a bus tickets north to advantage of the SJW welfare systems there.

Skin-tone agitators capitalized on the residual dissatisfactions drummed up in hot summer of 1962 and 1963, bullhorn exhortations in the streets that resulted in the release of stored-up resentments, breaking out in massive center-city violent anti-"white" activity when 1964 became hot and sweaty.

I was there, and a constituent of the fire department deployment to control/suppress the juvenile-minded defiance of irrational and physically violent instigators. Saw all the Northerners' vehemence expressed against these transient unintegrated libertines, worse than I've ever seen between cultures in true Dixieland.

Test bed for the incendiary Watts riots of 1965, that plunged America in everything that has followed. Riots always based on the interruption of totally unacceptable behavior of an individual and the law enforcement kf a firm, justified exemplary physical response to it.

All this arises from the 1962 Marxist-generated Point Huron Manifesto that endorsed exhortation of masses to react violently to over-caricaturized deviation magnifying radical egalitarian stimulus by professional agitators.

Now sixty years later infection of this broadly-supported deadly social infection includes the extremist radical peace-shattering femininization and murder by women of their unborn offspring and the inconveniences posed by them.

And yet its true.

99% of the accusations and horror stories of REAL racism are from the 50’s and 60’s.

People like her never had the fun and certainly none of the reparations crowd under 60 did either.

A black guy that moved to Seattle told me the same thing about the racism he experienced in Seattle.

as a transplant from the South to L A i have often said this city is much more segregated than my hometown in the Shenandoah. and that really hasn’t changed in 30 years so i always mention when i get that self righteous attitude from locals about the state of the South.

Yes! Good manners!! When I visit NC, I never get that “I hate whitey” vibe from the black people there. It’s really refreshing to encounter happy, productive, mannerly people of all races.

There are a few outright racists in the South - just as there are in the North, East, and West. These generally hide from polite society in public.

In Woke Elite society, like most of California, there are also racists in public. They espouse the ‘soft bigotry of low expectations’. The receivers of this racism are treated as second (or third or fourth) class citizens who deserve pity and coddling, not treatment as equals. This racism is the true danger.

Not a clue who this woman is. As far as I know I’ve never even heard her name before. I can’t name one in their prime “movie star” so it’s asked my 12 yr old if he could. Nope. At his age I could have named at least five or six as well as a few quite old ones and some long dead ones. So much for Hollywood.

And that is what made America great until the race baiters got ahold of history.
