That was the whole purpose for Russia invading in the first place. Russia doesn’t give a rat’s ass about people; but it covets what others have, and always has. That’s one of the reasons Russian soldiers loot like wild men whenever they take a town: Toilets; washing machines; fridges; cars; anything that is not nailed down or already destroyed; and they send all that crap back home.
Russia wants the natural resources of eastern Ukraine, and it does not want an economic rival for the development of those resources.
