'America's Governor' points to the scoreboard in response to the former President's fulminations. Gov. Ron DeSantis is finally on offense against former President Donald Trump, spotlighting the two men’s most recent elections.
Trump, who has attacked DeSantis repeatedly since before the November 2022 election, had gotten away with relative impunity slamming the man he’s dubbed “Ron DeSanctimonious.” The most recent attack was on DeSantis’ handling of COVID-19.
But at a press conference in Bradenton, the Governor said the people of Florida had “rendered” their “verdict” with his re-election last year, offering yet another preview of a potential 2024 GOP Primary slugfest between the former allies.
“What I would just say is this. I roll out of bed, I have people attacking me from all angles. It’s been happening for many, many years,” DeSantis said.
“If you take a crisis situation like COVID, the good thing is that if you’re an elected executive, you have to make all kinds of decisions. You’ve got to steer that ship. And the good thing is, the people are able to render a judgment on that, whether they re-elect you or not.”
“I’m happy to say that, you know, in my case, not only did we win re-election, we won with the highest percentage of the vote that any Republican Governor candidate has in the history of the state of Florida,” DeSantis said, noting his raw vote margin “nearly doubled” the previous record.
“That verdict has been rendered by the people of the state of Florida,” DeSantis added to applause.

We should point out that the voters were able to deliver their verdict in Florida because in Florida you have to show ID to vote. Voters outside of Florida were largely denied that opportunity.
That doesn’t sound like return fire. A ridiculous stretch done for click bait.
Just what everyone wants, a republican circular firing squad.
DeSantis did not make it personal, it was well stated. Like him more every day.
🎯
the headline writer probably consulted with Paul Ryan ...
DeSantis needs to learn how to bring Trump voters aboard, otherwise he’ll be just like McCain in 2008, trying to figure out how to bring in the 20 million or so people he’s pissed off in winning the nomination - in this case Trump voters, who never voted GOP before Trump and will be perfectly happy not voting GOP if there is not Trump, or Trump-supported candidate on the ballot.
In McCain’s case, he chose Palin which helped a lot, but still couldn’t put lipstick on that pig (that being McCain).
Yep. My thoughts also.
All DeSantis did was state the facts unlike President Trumps vitriol and name calling.
Governor DeSantis did a terrific job protecting us from federal government overreach during covid.....some Floridians might not take kindly to petty attacks on him.....even by Trump.
Yep. He never mentioned Trump's name.
You mean act like an ass to everyone in his way?
Their headline is not really accurate. He didn’t personalize his statement against anyone, just standing up for his record.
I agree with your point overall though. It’s currently unidirectional.
Some here sure do enjoy it…
Mic drop by DeSantis.
+1
Well that was gracefully handled.
“Neither does Trump”
Apparently Trump feels otherwise
“DeSantis did not make it personal, it was well stated. Like him more every day.
Yep. He never mentioned Trump’s name.”
Meets the definition of class. Trump meets the definition of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
“That doesn’t sound like return fire. A ridiculous stretch done for click bait.”
Yeah I’m sure many noticed that as well. There seems to be a desire by some to split the Republican Party apart.
