The America that I grew up in opened doors for strangers, kids rode bicycles to schools without helmets and without getting hurt, and kids played outside without their parents worrying.

Me, too. The guy would have been selling magazine subscriptions or something.
And kids would be on their bikes and going to get ice cream cones or browse comic book places——without being grabbed and forced into a vehicle by a pedo.
When I attended a private Kindergarten [Public Schools had none] in the 50s, we had to check our gun belts in a chair in the hall.
Me too.
Its not that place anymore.
