Trump always wanted to be welcomed into the Manhattan social scene yet no matter how rich he became, or how famous he was, to them, he would always just be a "loudmouth from Queens."
It ate at him.
He continues to covet their acceptance. He'll never receive it.
That assessment is wrong, imo.
