Yep, I’ve heard that pop. These days the ACL can often be stitched back together and practically full function can be restored.

My contractor on my house tore his ACL months ago. He's been limited to being on his feet not more than a couple of hours until it painfully swells. His anti-inflammatory med makes him very nauseous. I turned him on to an herbal tea that absolutely settles the stomach and he had his wife stock up (it works!). But the progress on my house has going at a snail's pace; lately I'm lucky if he puts in a couple of hours one day a week. Fortunately, my other contractor, who specializes in exquisite brick and tile work, has been taking up some of the slack, so progress IS being made. As soon as the house is finished (we're getting close), my contractor intends to have the big surgery on his knee. What is that, they borrow some tendon from the buttocks or something to fix it?

Yep, and some of the best knee surgeons in the world just happen to work near Colorado ski resorts.
