The Russian army's reported military advances in the Ukrainian city of Vuhledar could shore up strategic advantages in the Donbas region for all of 2023.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday warned that Russia "is preparing for a new wave of aggression" coinciding with new assaults on Vuhledar as well as Bakhmut.
His apprehension has been compounded by additional reports of small squad-sized Russian assault groups of 10 to 15 troops launching "limited ground attacks" on two main sectors of the front line—in central Zaporizhzhia and in Vuhledar in the western Donetsk oblast, according to the Institute for the Study of War.
Ukrainian journalist Yuri Butusov wrote Thursday on Telegram that Vuhledar is especially pivotal to the Russian Federation's interests.

He’s been saying the Russian army hasn’t even gotten started yet. When it does it will take more than stories in Newsweek to cover that up. Even for people like you.

Good point. The liberation of Kherson and Kharkiv got very little attention. A couple days on the news, and then back to celebrities.
No one is reporting on the more recent victories like the steady progress towards liberating Kreminna.
I am at a loss to understand this conflict on the ground. How much longer will it last? Or will it be a burning conflict now for decades like Afghanistan was? I see Poland is in the mix now providing tanks. Is the scope of this conflict growing and will it grow more?

History is full of such “liberations.” The problem is, usually most of the people “liberated” don’t want to be “liberated.”

Doug said that this summer, and then said Ukraine would be wiped out by Russia’s mighty fall offensive. Then he promised a winter offensive, now a spring one.
He is like the failed prophet who keeps calling for the end of the world, and then having to push the date back when it doesn’t happen.
Pretty embarrassing to see a guy like that as your guru.
