The Russians are doing human wave attacks. Warthog Defense on You Tube has video of this stuff going on.
Putting aside the political discussion about supporting Ukraine, the United States is telling them to give up that particular front at bakhmut and the Ukrainians don’t want to do it.
Could be a big mistake on their part.

Human wave attacks make sense for the Russians. Improved tanks, aircraft, apc, tank destroyers, all that is coming. They need a breakthrough to force Ukraine to the table before the new weapons arrive. Good strategy, except for the soldiers.
