If you "have to" get the paper, at least get the paper in a field of study that isn't worthless.

Right but let's remember--not everyone, in fact a small minority, have the intellect to write code, work in AI, become engineers, get through law school, medical school, bioengineer cells, etc.

So, we are making people without that intellectual horsepower go through the scam.
