The modern American draft ran from about 1940-1973, during the 1960s/70s after an intense and sustained anti-war/anti-draft movement with promotion from media, music, Hollywood and popular culture over many years about 30,000 young males went to Canada and Sweden according to a 1978 book by former members of President Gerald Ford’s Clemency Board, more liberal estimates claim 60 to 100 thousand over those many years.
Russia instantly went nuts and with mass numbers in a smaller population when they started conscripting only months ago.
