Right!

And the stakes are MUCH higher than those other two pesky World Wars.

They didn’t have nuclear weapons on ICBMs.

Absolutely so.
Dreadful as those were, and for the first time Mankind realized what nuclear weapons could do, albeit not in Europe - this time (if you ask me, WW2 was two wars running concurrently; one in Asia, where the conflict had started in China in 1937, and one in Europe) :-(

Many do remember, I presume, the danger of a thermonuclear showdown, which so many of us had been fearing during the Cold War? It’s saying “hello again” :-(

Believe it or not, I know more and more people who, having not been that religious in the past, are now fervently praying for peace...

May He hear our prayers. Amen.

“Russia is the most corrupt nation in Europe and of course more corrupt than Ukraine in world rankings.”

*************

Rankings notwithstanding, my statement that Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries on earth is true. So your point is?

I just thought you should know that Russia is far more corrupt.

Ukraine has also been working on its corruption as they escape Russian influence and move to the West, while Russia, will never change.

I have no illusions about Russia. Ukraine has a long history of corruption and the heavy flow of aid/money pouring into the country will only increase the opportunities for graft there.

For sure, if Ukraine survives this all the necessary cash deals and construction contracts, military contracts, government contracts, financial and interest contracts, and black market stuff will be screaming for corruption, and the Ukrainians will be dealing with life’s biggest collection of corruption opportunities all at once, as any country in that situation does.

The difference is that Ukraine has a future and will be turning to the West, will be ridding itself of Russia’s mental illness, and will be receiving help and pressure from Western institutions and Western culture to continue the fight against corruption they started years ago.

Assuming enough survives, Ukraine will be coming out of this a new nation, proud and united, with an identity and a bonding with the Western world, Ukraine has earned the admiration and respect of the world, and will probably be a pretty modern and strong nation in a couple of decades, and in NATO.

“[Ukreaine] will be receiving help and pressure from Western institutions and Western culture to continue the fight against corruption...”

There’s a lot of corruption in western institutions these days. Not sure we are exemplary in that regard. Just saying.

Wasted words, no one said such a thing, no one thinks such a thing, we live in the world.

Some would say worse than ever:

This year [2023], the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists moves the hands of the Doomsday Clock forward, largely (though not exclusively) because of the mounting dangers of the war in Ukraine. The Clock now stands at 90 seconds to midnight—the closest to global catastrophe it has ever been.
