It would help if you defined the term.
Escalation often implies increasing force or pressure against parity, such that the escalator performs some act that would eliminate the parity, and put himself in the superior position.
That is clearly not the situation here, as Ukraine is not even close to achieving parity with Russia.
If by “escalation” you mean one side ramped up the pressure regardless of its standing viv-a-vis its foe, that is a different story. In such a case — carried to absurdity — Ukraine would be guilty of escalation if it so much as fired a single rifle round at the invading hordes, instead of just meekly surrenderng.
Define the term, so we know what you are talking about.
